About
The period since the third edition of Constructing Democratic Governance in Latin America has been a pivotal and dynamic period for the Western Hemisphere. The latest volume, published summer of 2013, takes stock of both progress over the last five years in addition to the fresh challenges facing democracy. Employing the successful formula of previous installments, the fourth edition will compliment an in-depth analysis of eight countries with cross-cutting thematic chapters.
New to this volume is insight on constitutional reform and the concentration of powers, mass media and politics, citizen security and the effects of commodity exports on democratic governance. Meanwhile, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela serve individually as the focus of the volume's country chapters. Reflections from the editors, Michael Shifter of the Inter-American Dialogue and Jorge Domínguez of Harvard University, respectfully serve as the book's introduction and conclusion. MORE
