This paper seeks to answer questions such as “how have we arrived at the current scenario where curricular policy is dominated by standards and accountability systems? What types of education problems can be resolved with standards? What are the arguments in favor of and against standards? What lessons have we learned through the United States’ experience with standards that might be applied to Latin American countries? This paper recognizes that accountability policies are surrounded by many other controversial themes, such as standardized tests and reporting test results. Spanish.
