This study provides a panorama of the teaching profession in Latin America, discussing themes, debates, main positions, and research voids in an attempt to identify priorities for education policy. The central thesis is that teacher professionalization depends on associated with autonomous development, in which the individual takes responsibility for her/her own development. These features are a confluence of three elements: adequate working conditions, quality training, and management and evaluation that strengthen an individual’s capacity to teach. Spanish.
